Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Digital TV Panel Recommendations
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Congress has appropriated $25 million for FY 2002,"...for costs related to digital program production, development, and distribution, associated with the transition of public broadcasting to digital broadcasting, to be awarded as determined by the Corporation (for Public Broadcasting) in consultation with public radio and television licensees or permittees, or their designated representatives." and
WHEREAS,
In accordance with Congressional direction, CPB has convened a Digital Television Consultation Panel, comprised of senior station managers and representatives of their national membership organizations which has, over the past six months, met in consideration of the needs of public television stations for assistance in making the conversion to digital broadcasting, sent multiple discussion papers of related issues to and invited comment from each public television station; and
WHEREAS,
The Digital Television Consultation Panel has recommended that the Corporation allocate such funds as may be determined for the use of public television in FY 2002 to create a Digital Universal Service Fund, provide additional financial resources to the Digital Distribution Fund, and support the testing and analysis of design elements of the next generation interconnection system; and CPB Management concurs with these recommendations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The CPB Board of Directors hereby adopts Management recommendations as detailed in Management's memorandum of June 18, 2002, which is incorporated by reference.
