CPB Board Allocates $30 Million in Federal Funds for Digital Transition
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Congress has appropriated $45 million for FY 2001 & 2002, "...for costs related to digital program production, development, and distribution, associated with the transition of public broadcasting to digital broadcasting, to be awarded as determined by the Corporation (for Public Broadcasting) in consultation with public radio and television licensees or permittees, or their designated representatives." And
WHEREAS,
In accordance with Congressional direction, CPB has convened Digital Television and Radio Consultation Panels, comprised of senior station managers and representatives of their national membership organizations which have, over the past eight months, met in consideration of the needs of public television and radio stations for assistance in making the conversion to digital broadcasting, sent multiple discussion papers of related issues to and invited comment from each public television and radio station; and
WHEREAS,
The Joint Digital Radio and Television Consultation Panels have recommended that the Corporation allocate funds for the use of public television and radio as detailed in a memorandum of August 21, 2002, which is incorporated by reference; and
WHEREAS,
Management concurs with these recommendations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The CPB Board of Directors hereby adopts Management recommendations.
