Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
April 29, 2003

Appreciation to Fred Rogers

Five in favor, one absent

RESOLVED,

That the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Expresses Its Deep Appreciation for the Life and Work of

FRED ROGERS

Children's Television Pioneer

Creator and Host of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood"

Winner, Presidential Medal of Freedom

The Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes the extraordinary achievement of Fred Rogers, who, through more than 1000 episodes of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood," proved an unfailing friend to children, a safe haven in a stormy world, and a living example of the values he taught.

Warm, comforting, and reassuring, Mr. Rogers told children they could be loved "just the way they are." That message of unconditional love was heard and treasured by children for more than three decades, and continues to resonate today.

Fred Rogers once said, "We can either choose to use the powerful tool of television to demean human life, or we can use it to enrich it." Thanks to his choice, we are all immeasurably richer.

From the Presidential Medal of Freedom to a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Mr. Rogers earned worldwide fame and recognition. But it was the attention and affection of children that truly inspired him. It was always a beautiful day in his neighborhood, and his presence made our world a more beautiful place. We are deeply grateful.
