Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
July 22, 2003

Appreciation to Eric C. Smith, Jr.

Five in favor, one absent

Resolved,

That the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Expresses its Deep Appreciation for the Contributions of

Eric C. Smith, Jr.

to Public Broadcasting in the State of Florida

The Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes the enormous contributions of Eric C. Smith, Jr., who, through a career spanning five decades, worked to expand, modernize, and strengthen public broadcasting in the state of Florida.

Eric Smith dedicated a quarter century of his career to forging strong links between the Florida Department of Education -- his employer -- and the state's public broadcasters. His work helped create the thriving system of 13 public television stations and 12 public radio outlets that serves Floridians today. His strong advocacy for public broadcasting has ensured continued state support, even in very challenging circumstances.

Throughout his career, Eric Smith has drawn on his early experience as a producer, director and station manager to understand the concerns of stations, but his worldview has been one that looks beyond individual broadcasters to the system as a whole. That broad vision has won him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and peers, in Florida and throughout the nation.

We offer our thanks and our best wishes on his retirement.
