Digital Funding Panel Recommendations
Six in favor, one abstaining, one absent
WHEREAS,
The Congress has appropriated to CPB $39,387,360 for fiscal year 2005 "for costs related to digital program production, development, and distribution, associated with the transition of public broadcasting to digital broadcasting, to be awarded as determined by the Corporation in consultation with public radio and television licensees or permittees, or their designated representatives;" and
WHEREAS,
CPB management has recently reviewed the uses and purposes of these funds in consultation with station-based advisory panels and representatives of their membership organizations, and sought additional opinion from the station community through publication of drafts for comment; and
WHEREAS,
CPB management has considered these recommendations and comments and has proposed to the CPB Board of Directors final recommendations on the use of the funds;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the CPB Board of Directors adopts the funding priorities recommended by CPB management as outlined in the attachment hereto, and authorizes CPB, consistent therewith and in consultation with advisory panels and station input, to take such other actions and make such adjustments as may be necessary and appropriate to facilitate the goal of timely distribution for effective transition of public broadcasting into the digital era.
