December 5, 2006
Appreciation for the Contributions of Frank H. Cruz
Unanimously
RESOLVED,
That the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Expresses Its Deep Appreciation for the Contributions of
Frank H. Cruz
Member, CPB Board, 1994-2006
Vice Chairman of the Board, 1997-1999 and 2003-2005
Chairman of the Board, 1999-2001
The Board of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes the extraordinary contributions of Frank Cruz, who, during his long and distinguished tenure on the CPB board, encouraged greater service to underserved populations, stronger links within the public broadcasting community, and more innovative use of new technology.
As the Board's first Hispanic chairman, Frank Cruz encouraged us to be more mindful of America's changing demographics. His leadership helped produce breakthrough programs like American Family, the first Latino drama to air in primetime, and Maya and Miguel, a show specifically designed to aid children in English language acquisition. He also played an important role in assisting Latino Public Broadcasting, a member of CPB's Minority Consortia, through its early days.
Frank Cruz built relationships with his peers both within the public broadcasting community and with the many civic organizations who share our strong interest in public service. He urged new voices be heard and through public broadcasting helped connect these voices more closely to their communities.
The Board expresses its gratitude to Frank Cruz, who has been a determined advocate for public broadcasting, an invaluable colleague, and a treasured friend.
