Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Adoption of "Statement of Principles, Editorial and Artistic Integrity in CPB-Funded Programs"
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The CPB Board is committed to the principles stated in the Public Broadcasting Act, that CPB should carry out its purposes and functions and engage in its activities in ways that will most effectively assure the maximum freedom of public telecommunications entities and systems from interference with or control of program content or other activities, while assuring that the funds appropriated to CPB are used in a prudent and financially responsible manner; and
WHEREAS,
CPB Management has proposed a statement of principles that describes the relationship between CPB's mission, the requirements of the Public Broadcasting Act and CPB's role in program content decision making; and
WHEREAS,
The CPB Board wishes to establish a standard for the preservation of artistic and editorial integrity in program funding decisions that could be adopted and used by all elements of public broadcasting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the Board adopts the attached "Statement of Principles, Editorial and Artistic Integrity in CPB-Funded Programs;" and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
That the Board directs Management to take such steps and make such changes in the CPB corporate structure necessary to implement these Principles, including the realignment of reporting lines of the departments which are responsible for program funding decisions. The Board also hereby rescinds any previous resolutions or relevant parts thereof which are inconsistent with this resolution or the attached Principles.
