Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Appreciation for William H. Kobin
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
William H. Kobin has served public broadcasting for many years, and has been President and Chief Executive Officer of Community Television of Southern California, KCET, since 1983;
WHEREAS,
Under Mr. Kobin's leadership, KCET/Los Angeles's weekly viewership has doubled to nearly 3 million households, and subscribership has increased 60 percent to over 320,000 individual contributors;
WHEREAS,
Mr. Kobin established a production division which has been acclaimed for many national productions, including the Peabody Award-winning Spy Machines, Secret Intelligence, A Raisin in the Sun, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Trying Times, American Cinema, Human Quest, and The Astronomers;
WHEREAS,
Demonstrating Mr. Kobin's commitment to the development of new funding sources and new technologies, KCET is a partner in the KCET Store of Knowledge retail chain which has expanded nationwide; KCET's Communications division established Videofinders, a telephone service for locating nearly 600,000 videos; and KCET built an Interactive Media Center which is used for participatory teacher training and to develop computer software to accompany KCET productions; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Kobin's long career in public broadcasting includes six years as President and CEO of KTCA-TV/Minneapolis-St. Paul, Vice President of the Children's Television Workshop, producer of Sesame Street and other children's programs, and Vice President for Programming of National Educational Television in New York.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the Board extends its appreciation to Mr. Kobin for his many years of service to public broadcasting, offers its congratulations on the occasion of his retirement, and wishes him well in his future endeavors.
