Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
May 17, 1988
FY 1990 Budget Priorities
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Board of Directors has stated that the highest priority of the Corporation will be the support of activities which result in a clear and measurable difference in the quality and diversity of video and audio programming services available to all Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
Management will prepare a corporate budget for FY 1990 that will:
1. Reflect a transition from current activities to those judged by the criterion of resulting in a clear and measurable difference in the quality and diversity of video and audio programming services available to all Americans;
2. Contain only those activities that are consistent with CPB's comparative advantages of aggregated resources, ability to make long-term financial commitments, objective national perspective, and centralized information resources; and
3. Focus CPB's resources on a limited number of higher priority issues that are consistent with the concerns of the public broadcasting system as a whole, as expressed through the joint planning process. CPB should commit adequate resources over a sustained period to resolve issues on which it focuses, rather than allocating modest levels of financing to many activities.
