Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting
September 15, 1992
Annual Copyright License Fee Obligations
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Board has been informed of the conclusion of successful negotiations between representatives of public broadcasting, including CPB, and the major music copyright licensing organizations to establish the license fees to be paid by public broadcasting for the use of music under the terms of Section 118 of the Copyright Act of 1976 for the period 1993-1997; and
WHEREAS,
Representatives of public television and radio have asked CPB to endorse the results of the negotiations as an indication of its willingness to consider assuming some or all of the annual license fee costs of these agreements on behalf of public broadcasting.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the CPB Board endorses the terms of the agreements, disclosed to it, between the major music copyright licensing organizations and PBS and NPR, on behalf of public television and radio licensees for the period 1993-1997 and commends the public-spirited approach to these negotiations by music organizations, that resulted in voluntary license fee arrangements; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
That, consistent with its Resolution of June 23, 1982, the Board will consider, on an annual basis, what contribution to make to the annual copyright license fee obligations of public broadcasting.
