Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

Public Television Task Force on Funding
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
the Public Television Task Force on Funding, which included representatives from CPB and represented the first industry-sponsored examination of all public television funding in 17 years, released its final report in September 1991; and
WHEREAS,
the recommendations contained in the report are intended to assist in meeting the ultimate goal of the Task Force: to assist stations, producers, and national organizations in increasing their financial capacity and stability during the next decade and beyond; and
WHEREAS,
the principal recommendations of the Task Force are:
1. Stations should adopt programs and activities that encourage individual giving for life and beyond;
2. Public broadcasting needs permanent government funding -- now;
3. Public broadcasting needs to develop high dollar, long-term relationships with underwriters;
4. Stations must engage in cooperative ventures to increase net income; and
5. Public broadcasting must explore, test, and undertake appropriate mission-related entrepreneurial ventures.
WHEREAS,
the CPB Board of Directors reviewed and discussed the recommendations of the Task Force.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
that the CPB Board fully endorses the recommendations of the Public Television Task Force on Funding and commends it on its fine work.
