Resolution of the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting

FY 1992 Operating Budget and Learning Link
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
the Board of Directors has received a recommendation from Management on an allocation from the Mission and Goals Fund to provide financial assistance to LinkNet, Inc., the nonprofit operator of LEARNING LINK, a computer-based educational communications and information system housed at the Central Education Network;
WHEREAS,
this proposal requests up to $600,000 to be made available over a three-year period, with $200,000 in FY 1992 and a similar amount in both FY 1993 and FY 1994, contingent upon LEARNING LINK receiving private matching funds in those years;
WHEREAS,
this financial assistance will help add 25 operating sites for LEARNING LINK so that public television's computer-based communications and information system will be available through 42 sites in every part of the country;
WHEREAS,
the combination of LEARNING LINK local services with the upcoming VSAT-delivered national services will have a significant impact on public broadcasting's ability to serve the needs of schools and other social service agencies in their communities and will assist public broadcasting stations to become full public telecommunications service providers.
NOW, THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED,
that the Board accepts and endorses Management's recommendation to allocate up to $600,000 from the Mission and Goals Fund ($200,000 in FY 1992, FY 1993, and FY 1994, contingent upon LEARNING LINK receiving matching funds) to expand LEARNING LINK to new sites throughout the country.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED,
that the CPB FY 1992 Operating Budget, as adopted on March 24, 1991 and amended on January 28, 1992, be further amended, as reflected on the attached table, to accommodate those allocations.
