Public Radio Station Grants Review Recommendations
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Board recognizes that all public radio stations are valuable local community resources which:
give voice to community interests,
illuminate and foster solutions to local problems,
reflect and nurture the cultural and artistic heritage of the community and nation, and
address national concerns;
WHEREAS,
The Board acknowledges that, under the provisions of the Public Broadcasting Act, CPB makes grants to eligible public radio stations in a manner intended to:
bring public radio programming and related services into the lives of as many Americans as possible,
help public radio stations meet high professional standards that ensure stations serve listeners with programs of high quality, diversity, creativity, excellence, and innovation obtained from diverse sources, and assist public radio stations collectively to reflect and serve the diverse audiences and cultures of the American people;
WHEREAS,
The Board has received the report and recommendations of Management after it engaged in the most extensive consultation with the public radio system In more than a decade, including meeting with more than 200 stations and a CPB-appointed Overview Advisory Committee and Radio Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS,
The Management recommends that CPB adopt a single statement of Principles of CPB Grant-Making to public Radio Stations and that CPB finance $5.7 million in initiatives that will strengthen public radio service to people of color, augment public radio service for listeners in exceptionally rural areas, and energize public radio's efforts to expand public radio service to all Americans.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
The Board of Directors of the Corporation for public Broadcasting hereby approves Management's recommendations regarding the Principles of CPB Grant-Making to public Radio and the distribution of funds from the community service and national programming portions of the radio allocation as detailed in Management's recommendation of April 30, 1992 and in the Final Report of the public Radio Station Grants Review dated April 1992.
