Framework of Priorities to Ensure Universal Service
Seven in favor, one absent
WHEREAS,
The national economic recession is placing unprecedented fiscal pressure on many public television and radio stations across the country resulting in station workforce layoffs, reductions in content and services, and potential cessation of operations of some stations;
WHEREAS,
CPB is committed to supporting the valuable content and services that stations deliver and ensuring that all Americans have access to public service media content and services;
WHEREAS,
CPB management, having consulted with the CPB Board of Directors, and recognizing the significant scale of the financial challenge and the limited discretionary funding available to directly assist stations, has developed and presented a framework of priorities for providing assistance to stations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT,
The CPB Board of Directors approves management's framework of priorities for supporting public media stations in financial distress as outlined in the attached.
