Appreciation for Sesame Street

Unanimously

Resolved,

That the Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting expresses its deep appreciation for the outstanding contributions of

Sesame Street

The longest running public television children's series

Winner of a Peabody Award, a record-breaking 122 Emmy Awards, and recent recipient of the Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award

The Board of Directors of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting recognizes the extraordinary achievement of Sesame Street on the occasion of its 40th Anniversary. Since its first broadcast on November 10, 1969, Sesame Street has provided generations of children and their parents a safe place to learn, to have fun, and to be proud of who they are.

Sesame Street has been a leader in promoting diversity, engaging communities in dialogue, and now in using digital technology to reach new audiences. Using the most current technologies the series has reached beyond the broadcast to connect to children where they live, learn and play. From the beginning, the much loved Sesame Street characters have reflected the real world diversity of their ever-changing audiences. And have given parents the tools to have honest, meaningful dialogues with their children on a variety of topics big and small, difficult and simple.

Day by day, week by week, year by year, Sesame Street has grown into an internationally recognized standard-bearer for educational media.

We are grateful for the warmth and wonder you have brought to our lives and to the lives of so many. We wish you at least 40 more years of success and "sunny days."
