Authorization to Develop a New Charter for the CPB Office of the Ombudsman
Unanimously
WHEREAS,
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting established the Office of the Ombudsmen by resolution of the Board of Directors in April 2005 to protect public broadcasting from undue interference, and to ensure that it represents high standards in accuracy, balance and objectivity; and
WHEREAS,
Since 2006 the Office of the Ombudsmen has consisted of one Ombudsman, and the need for its services has evolved to reflect changes in today's public service media, and
WHEREAS,
The Board of Directors wishes to re-affirm its commitment to objectivity, balance, fairness, accuracy and transparency in public service media through a new Office of the Ombudsman.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED,
That the Board of Directors authorizes the Corporate Governance Committee to develop a new Charter for the CPB Office of the Ombudsman, and further authorizes CPB management to solicit proposals for a new Ombudsman who will represent CPB consistent with the terms of that Charter.
