Ted A. Garcia's career spans more than 37 years in public and commercial broadcasting. He joins CPB after seven years serving as General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of KNME-TV, licensed to the University of New Mexico and Albuquerque Public Schools, serving northern and central New Mexico. Under Garcia's leadership, KNME became the first digital broadcast operation in New Mexico in 2001 as well as a digital duopoly when a second digital channel KNMD was signed-on in 2004.
Prior to joining KNME in 2001, Garcia was the Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of KETC in St. Louis, Missouri. He initially came to KETC in 1981 as Director of Operations, becoming Vice President of Operations in 1983 and Senior Vice President in 1992.
Before working in the public television arena, Garcia held numerous creative and management positions with the Television Stations Division of CBS. He maintained a sports production career for twenty years working in NFL, NHL, MLB and Big 8, Big 10 & PAC 20 sports television. Garcia has also served as a consultant for the Department of Defense for American Forces Radio & Television Services and for Ana G. Mendez University, Puerto Rico, assisting that institution in the implementation of digital broadcasting and distance learning.
His community engagements include the Albuquerque Museum Foundation Board, the Heart Hospital of New Mexico Foundation Board, New Mexico Commission for Public Broadcasting, New Mexico Tourism Commission and numerous local, regional and national governance assignments with the American Red Cross.
He holds a B.S. degree from Southern Illinois University (Edwardsville).
