Services to Minorities and Diverse Audiences

The cultural mosaic of America is complex and public broadcasting makes extraordinary efforts to ensure that it reflects that complexity. Through the National Minority Consortia, CPB funds encourage programming that reflects the full array of the nation's cultural diversity. The effort, however, neither begins nor ends with this funding role. Audience research informs programming decisions and strategies for service to minority communities; and commitments to hiring minorities build an increasing pool of talent. The CPB/WGBH National Center for Accessible Media plays a leading role in the development of programming and technologies for individuals with disabilities. The full scope of CPB's actions in support of greater diversity is outlined yearly in reports mandated by Congress.
