American Archive
Three years ago, Congress endorsed the development of an American Archive to ensure that content created by public funds will be preserved for future generations of Americans. During a two-year pilot project led by Oregon Public Broadcasting, 22 radio and television stations digitized 2,400 hours of programming dating back to 1948. Now it is time for more public media stations to get involved.
Content Inventory Project Request for Proposals
Working through WGBH's Archive and Media Services Group, CPB is extending a request for proposals for stations to participate in training and tutorials about effective inventory management, to take advantage of inventory tools and software for inventory processing, and to identify media that is in danger of deterioration and loss.
American Archive Technology and Strategy Survey
To better inform the development of the American Archive, CPB requests technology directors and strategists at public media stations participate in a survey. This survey will help determine the architecture of a digital repository; digital file specifications relevant to public media, future consumers and educators; management requirements; and technical specifications required to build the American Archive.
