This film traces the intimate journey of Avery, the adopted African American daughter of white Jewish lesbians. At sixteen, Avery sends a letter to the adoption agency asking them to forward it to her birth mother. Six months later, she learns her birth mother wants to talk. The challenging journey that ensues is set against the backdrop of Avery’s life at home in Brooklyn with her mothers and adopted siblings, an older Puerto Rican brother and a younger Korean brother.
