TELLING AMERICA’S STORIES: THE NEXT DECADE ANDBEYOND

Greater Washington Educational Telecommunications Association and American Lives Project Inc. d.b.a. Florentine Films, Walpole, NH

Arlington, VA

$2,000,000 amendment (This amendment did not change the total grant amount but simply allowed pay-out of a larger amount in 2009 than originally set forth in the agreement.)

This project provides funding on an annual basis from 2008–2017 for Ken Burns (Florentine Films) to develop and produce programming about major American stories. Each year’s grant will be tied to specific projects such as Baseball: The Tenth Inning (w.t.) and Prohibition, Vietnam, the Dust Bowl, the Age of the Roosevelts, Martin Luther King Jr., the American buffalo, Ernest Hemingway, the Central Park Five, and America: A Family Story (w.t.), which traces 200 years of American history by following generations of a single family or several families. Separate agreements will be entered into for each project. Under this amendment, funding was reallocated from 2017 to 2009 to ensure completion of “The Tenth Inning” in time for its scheduled broadcast in fall 2010.
