A two-hour special exploring the life of the Indian sage who never claimed to be God and yet became the godhead of the world’s fourth-largest religion. A biography of Buddha the man and the legends surrounding him, the film traces his life first as the young Siddartha on a journey to enlightenment and then as the teacher who raised compelling questions about what it means to be a human being in a world of pain, suffering, and constant change. Using great art and the echoes of Buddha’s time found in contemporary India, The Buddha spans a period of history and a spiritual journey that still has resonance today.
