XMAS WITHOUT CHINA

Tom Xia

Los Angeles, CA

American news media reports slamming the lead content of Chinese products drive proud immigrant Tom Xia to challenge his neighbors to celebrate Christmas without Chinese goods. They eagerly accept, including the Jones family since a recall of their son’s favorite toys prompted them to have him lead-tested. What follows is a humorous and surprising intercultural exchange as Xia, initially armed with confidence about defending his native China, finds himself struggling to understand his identity as his relationship with the Joneses deepens.
