Sesame Workshop will develop two innovative interactive literacy game development projects: a distribution-ready The Electric Company Intergenerational Game targeting 6- to 8-year-olds and their caretakers, and a playable prototype The Electric Company Mentoring Game that will engage 6- to 7-year-olds and their 10- to 11-year-old mentors. The projects will be funded through a Ready To Learn (RTL) grant from CPB and the U.S. Department of Education. In designing the two projects, Sesame Workshop will incorporate the latest research and best practices concerning the role of digital media and gaming in intergenerational learning, including the work of the Joan Ganz Cooney Center. Sesame Workshop will design, build, test, and deliver The Electric Company Intergenerational Game for distribution to the 20 RTL public television station demonstration sites as well as submit a wider distribution plan with no-cost and low-cost deployment options beyond the term of this contract. Sesame Workshop will also design, build, and test a playable prototype of The Electric Company Mentoring Game. Sesame Workshop will engage game development/production partners at the Carnegie Mellon University’s Entertainment Technology Center and the University of Southern California Game Innovation Lab to work with PBS Interactive to ensure the two projects comply with PBS technical standards.
