$83,144
Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) will develop digital media resources on climate and weather consisting of a Web site with approximately 50 video clips from LPB’s collection of national and award-winning productions. These programs, aligned to national and state curriculum standards, will include lesson plans and support materials. Video segments will illustrate global warming and examine how climate change impacts human and ecosystem health. Some clips will be available to students for downloading. Interviews with scientists will also be included to encourage students to consider careers in science. Two animated simulations will develop awareness of interrelationships affect weather, and two interactive modules will enable students to manipulate variables and explore possible outcomes, risks, and benefits. Access to Internet resources will enable students to compare daily and long-term weather reports and tables and graphs. This grant funds creation of content that specifically supports middle school earth sciences curricula for grades four through eight. It will be distributed through station education portals as well as through PBS’s proposed Digital Learning Library (formerly EDCAR).
