Gulf Coast Consortium

Credit: Louisiana Public Broadcasting

Foundation for Excellence in Louisiana Public Broadcasting (for the benefit of multiple participants in multiple locations)

Baton Rouge, Louisiana

$150,000

Public media stations in the region surrounding the Gulf of Mexico responded to the oil spill with in-depth reporting for their communities and the national audiences via NPR and PBS programs. This project will fund creation of a Gulf Coast Consortium to support stations’ local journalism efforts to cover the ongoing crisis for the next 12 months. The consortium will create and share content for broadcast and digital distribution and will conduct community engagement activities. Louisiana Public Broadcasting, the lead station, will coordinate content and make subgrants to other producing stations, which include Alabama Public Television; Mississippi Public Broadcasting; WEDU, Tampa; WUSF, Tampa; WWNO, New Orleans; KUHF, Houston; WBHM, Birmingham; WSRE, Pensacola, Florida, and WVAS, Montgomery, Alabama.
