This film is a beautiful requiem to Hawaiian childhood in cataclysmic times. Through the tales of witnesses who are now Kupuna (elders), viewers are transported to Hawai‘i on December 7, 1941, and the chaotic months that followed. The narrators’ unique and emotional points of view have been overshadowed by military histories and stories of American triumph. In a post-9/11 world, the seldom-heard children of wartime Hawai‘i have much to teach about transcending fear and allowing humanity to triumph.
