$555,250

This multiplatform educational project helps teach American history to middle school students through the stories of ordinary kids doing extraordinary things during seminal moments of the nation’s past. During Phase I of CPB’s American History and Civics Initiative, the grantee created a multiplatform suite of educational materials centered on the mini-docudrama Frederick Douglass: Pathway from Slavery to Freedom. For Phase II, the grantee will complete the build-out of the 2.0 Web site; two- to three-minute video modules to demonstrate how teachers can implement specific elements of the curriculum; a wiki about the life of Frederick Douglass; and a customized and expanded Young American Heroes tool set. The grantee will also complete and distribute a Frederick Douglass graphic novel to students and teachers to coincide with the national broadcast and launch of the full Web site.
