National Center for Media Engagement (NCME) FY 2010, 2011 and 2012 Support

Board of Regents of the University of Wisconsin System

Madison, Wisconsin

$1,000,000

In fiscal years 2010–2012, NCME and CPB will establish the following goals for the public broadcasting community:

  1. A shared understanding of the value and practice of community engagement and its critical role in public media’s mission.
  2. A research-based understanding about strategic engagement, its return on investment, and effective complementary fundraising practices.
  3. A set of smart practices for engaging local communities and professional development for teaching those practices.
  4. An appreciation for the value of sharing stories of impact, particularly, using My Source as a framework for communicating proof of performance.
  5. An understanding of how public media can effectively use emerging digital and social media technologies in their engagement with local communities.
NCME will increase its own level of accountability by forming an advisory council and regularly polling its customers, stations, and producers. To maintain long-term viability, NCME will evaluate and deploy fee-based services to move the organization toward self-sustainability.
