WUOM-FM (for the benefit of multiple participants in multiple locations)

Ann Arbor, Michigan

$186,813

Changing Gears, formerly called Reinventing the Rust Belt, will be a Local Journalism Center formed by three stations—Michigan Radio, Ann Arbor/Detroit; Chicago Public Radio; and ideastream, Cleveland—to tell the stories of diverse communities in a changing economy through a multimedia, multiplatform approach. The center will also establish a platform for citizens to engage in discussion and debate about the region’s economic recovery. The project will employ innovative social media techniques developed at Chicago Public Radio to incorporate a strong community component. Visit the Changing Gears Web site.
