$30,000

As the story of the devastating earthquake in Haiti moves off the front pages and major news organizations make plans to leave the country, the National Black Programming Consortium (NBPC) will help fill the gap in coverage by sending Haitian-born producer Michele Stephenson to the country. This multiplatform content series of four to six multimedia narrative shorts will be available for distribution across various platforms for maximum impact. Current strategies call for distribution on the NBPC Web site and through AfroPop (television and Web). The content will also be made available to NewsHour, Worldfocus, and PRX’s Radio Remix. In addition to supporting continuation of coverage, this grant underscores the commitment of CPB to diversity within the producing ranks of public media and the production of content that is intended to attract younger and more diverse audiences.
