This nationwide project is a 22-month, producer-led initiative designed to bring new innovation capacity to public radio and television stations. It builds on the 2008 CPB-funded Makers Quest 2.0 (MQ2) project and “marries” two critical assets of the public media community—its diverse, entrepreneurial talent and forward-moving stations—to create fresh, replicable approaches to multimedia journalism and storytelling that go beyond traditional production models. The 10 collaboration teams of lead producers and incubating stations are Anayansi Dias-Cortez’s Sonic Trace at KCRW in LA, Todd Melby’s Black Gold Boom at Prairie Public Radio in North Dakota, Delaney Hall’s Austin Music Map at KUT-FM in Texas, Jennifer Brandel’s Curious City at Chicago Public Media, Julie Reichert and Steve Bognar’s Dayton, Ohio–based ReInvention at WYSO-FM, Davia Nelson and Nikki Silva’s (The Kitchen Sisters) The Making of … at KQED Radio and Television, Erica Mu’s Hear Here: A Pop-up Radio Project at KALW-FM in San Francisco, Ken Eklund’s social media “game” Ed Zed Omega at Twin Cities Public Television, Julia Kumari-Drapkin’s ISeeChange at KVMR-FM in Paonia, Colorado, and Val Wang’s Planet Take-out at WGBH Radio and Television in Boston.
