Turkey Creek

The residents of Turkey Creek are descendants of emancipated slaves who settled on Mississippi’s Gulf Coast in the 1860s. When their historic cemetery is bulldozed, prodigal son Derrick Evans returns home to help his community fight rampant commercial development and industrial pollution. Derrick’s painful but inspiring journey from public school teacher to activist leads him to the national stage in the wake of Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil disaster.
