A two-year grant to assist WHYY in continuing its NewsWorks project (which CPB funding helped to create in 2010), the linchpin of WHYY’s transformation to a multiplatform outlet in which content is seamlessly distributed across radio, television and web in equal measure. This involves a complete overhaul of the organization’s business model and staffing structure.
The grant is to enable WHYY to grow NewsWorks journalistic and civic engagement capacities; build new audiences of users who can then be converted to contributors of both content and revenue; grow revenue streams including underwriting, membership and major gifts; and—most important—disseminate to other public media organizations what has been learned in the NewsWorks project.
