This is a three-year grant to fund programmatic and operational support for the Center for Asian American Media (CAAM), one of the national minority programming consortia designated by CPB to provide culturally relevant content for the public media system. CPB funds these consortia as part of its commitment to develop and fund high-quality, culturally diverse programming for the American viewing public. This multiyear contract is a major shift in the relationship between CPB and CAAM; in the past, CAAM grants were awarded annually, with separate contracts for programming initiatives and operational activities. This agreement will further an ongoing relationship between CPB and CAAM to increase the level of multimedia content and services available for Asian American audiences. The multiyear grant will provide operational and programming resources for CAAM to gradually expand and refine the services it provides to public media entities, as well as to provide support for educational initiatives to increase the amount of culturally relevant content available to educators. The grant will also fund CAAM’s strategic gaming and digital initiatives that align with CPB’s FY 2011 priorities.
