ITVS Funding Agreement FY 2011 – FY 2013, year 1 of 3 (FY 2011)

In the first year of activity under a three-year agreement that continues CPB support for fiscal years 2011, 2012 and 2013, Independent Television Service (ITVS) will use this grant to fund general operations and to promote public media programs created by independent producers in accordance with its statutory obligation to expand the diversity and innovativeness of programming available to the American public. ITVS programs are presented on the weekly series Independent Lens, on other public television strands such as POV, Frontline and American Experience, on cable television–only channels and on a variety of digital platforms such as digital cable, digital download, Internet streaming and podcasting. ITVS further supports its content distribution by means of extensive community engagement activities such as Community Cinema and Community Classroom.

Approximately $1.6 million of the FY 2011–2013 grant will be targeted to projects that particularly address innovation. This funding will be split among three areas of focus: activities supporting CPB’s American Graduate initiative, R&D for independent producers to develop programming for primetime broadcast and projects that are particularly innovative in their distribution or engagement strategies.
