Half the Sky

This program is a multiplatform project, anchored by a four-hour PBS primetime broadcast and based on Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn’s widely acclaimed book Half the Sky: Turning Oppression Into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, Along With an Audience-Engagement Campaign. This transmedia project highlights critical issues facing women in the Global South and the potential they have to offer solutions. The title is based on a Chinese proverb that holds that “women hold up half the sky.” This project reinforces the book’s message that women aren’t the problem, they’re the solution. Half the Sky focuses on six inspiring personal stories, each with a different central character and theme, developed in close collaboration with authors Kristof and WuDunn.
