Oregon
In addition to producing local programs such as Oregon Art Beat, an Emmy Award–winning series that profiles artists of every kind from across the state, and Oregon Field Guide, a valuable source of information about outdoor recreation, ecological issues, natural resources, and travel destinations since 1988, Oregon Public Broadcasting worked with community partners to develop a Small Business Rural Resource Network Initiative to inspire sustainable community building and promote resources available to small-business owners and unemployed workers. Through community events, on-air programming, and online content developed by ordinary citizens, the initiative showcased stories of successful entrepreneurs, people trying to make ends meet, and communities working to build stable, vital economies in Oregon’s rural towns.
All Classical FM/KQAC-FM partners with the Oregon Symphony and Portland Opera to host lectures, provide music lessons, and invite listeners to watch prerecorded concerts online. On air, the station provides behind-the-scenes looks at how art organizations work and insight into performances.
Having earned 17 of them in 2009, the news department at KLCC-FM in Eugene won 22 Oregon Associated Press Broadcast Association Awards in 2010, including Best Overall Excellence, Best Newscast, Best Use of Online Medium, and Best Website. The Eugene station produces News at Noon, a midday newsmagazine offering newscasts, feature reports, arts and book reviews, interviews, commentary, and analysis of local and regional issues. It also produces Special Issues, in-depth reports on specific topics, with segments airing over a period of one week that explore different elements of a chosen topic.
