Hawaii Public Radio’s Aloha Shorts is a locally produced radio program of writings from Bamboo Ridge Press, Hawaii’s definitive literary journal of poetry and fiction, performed by local actors. The show is taped before a live audience on the first Sunday of the month and is broadcast every Tuesday on Hawaii Public Radio’s HPR-2 program service (KIPO 89.3 in Honolulu).
In Hawaiian, “kani ka pila” means play music, and Derrick Malama plays the latest in Hawaiian music as well as classic songs from the island’s past on Kanikapila with Derrick Malama. The weekly three-hour show, produced in Honolulu, includes interviews with guest artists and in-studio performances and is also broadcast on Hawaii Public Radio’s HPR-2 program service.
