STEM Community Engagement Pilot

CPB Math and Science Initiative

This request for proposals invites a representative group of public broadcasting stations to take part in the STEM Community Engagement Pilot, part of the CPB Math and Science Pilot Initiative. Note: Responses to this RFP are to be sent to the STEM Initiative Manager, KETC. CPB's posting of KETC's RFP does not constitute a commitment, express or implied, by CPB to fund proposals under consideration.

The overarching goal of the STEM Community Engagement Pilot is to build, strengthen and grow partnerships between public media and partner organizations that ultimately result in youth engaged in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning across the United States. This Pilot also seeks to deepen public broadcasting's significance locally and nationally and build station capacity to create sustainable, ongoing engagement around STEM learning.

The STEM Community Engagement Pilot is a key element in the CPB Math and Science Initiative, developed in response to the pressing national need for improved student achievement in STEM subjects.

This Initiative brings together local public broadcasting stations, national producers, science educators and organizations, and other partners and stakeholders with FIRST's (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) broad network of students, scientists, business leaders, and mentors. The impetus for local partnership with FIRST stems from their broad proliferation in communities across the country.
