Digital Intergenerational Family Literacy Game Development

Request for Proposals

CPB is seeking to fund the development of an innovative interactive game that engages family members and their young children in "literacy practice and play" with the goal of promoting literacy development of children ages 6-8. The game will be funded through a Ready to Learn (RTL) grant from CPB and the U.S. Department of Education (USDOE). The game's design should incorporate the latest research and best practices concerning the role of digital media and gaming in intergenerational learning.

The Ready to Learn initiative is funded by a federal grant awarded to CPB, in partnership with PBS, through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Education. The initiative includes a coalition of producers, reading, media and social marketing researchers and 20 public media stations throughout the country. All entities work collaboratively to use the power of public media to help low-income children between the ages of 2-8 strengthen their reading skills. RTL products and services constitute a low-cost opportunity to enhance and support learning in early education centers, parent education programs and Pre-K-2 classrooms.

CPB expects the budget for the project to be up to $900,000.
