Public television stations in the Los Angeles region are looking to form a consortium to reduce infrastructure, create efficiencies and better serve the people of greater Los Angeles. Early in 2010, CPB retained Booz & Company to determine if a case could be made to support the formation of a station consortium in Los Angeles. Their findings outlined significant cost savings and additional revenue that could be generated through the formation of a consortium that would synchronize fundraising efforts, coordinate programming and production, reduce infrastructure with a central master control, and consolidate select back-office functions.
The PBS stations are already working to coordinate schedules and are building a plan for cross-promotion so that the audience in Los Angeles knows when and on what channel they can view a specific program. In addition, investments are being made to increase capacity and lay the foundation for consolidating infrastructure.
CPB seeks a Consultant to work with the public television stations in Los Angeles to develop and implement an organizational and governance structure and to provide recommendations on a management structure and potential funding models for the consortium.
