Rising Stars Managing Producer

Open Call for Grant Applications

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) seeks applications from organizations (Applicant(s)) to manage the Rising Stars Radio contest (Contest) and produce related multi-media content, including a two-part radio series. The Contest will use hip hop as a platform to engage youth ages 12-20 years old (Target Audience) around one of the most challenging issues of our time, the national high school dropout crisis (Crisis). The Contest will seek to spotlight the best socially conscious hip hop and spoken word talent conveying a positive message about overcoming the Crisis and provide an opportunity for young people to share their academic experiences. Final contestants will be rewarded with a chance to perform in front of a live audience and/or prizes that encourage academic achievement. The Contest will take place on a dedicated, interactive website to guarantee access to youth from all ethnic, religious and socio-economic backgrounds, ensure transparency to the competitive process, and give audiences an opportunity to engage in the process. The two-part radio series will provide an in-depth Contest experience for listeners and build awareness about the Crisis from a younger perspective.

The chosen Applicant will be responsible for: (i) managing the Contest, culminating in a live performance event; (ii) producing multi-media content, including a two part Radio series for multi-platform distribution; and (iii) developing and implementing a comprehensive promotion and marketing plan.
