Crisis in Haiti
Public Media stations across the country are responding to the crisis in Haiti. From helping local Haitian Americans access support and resources to delivering in-depth coverage of the crisis, Public Media is working to help communities act on a local, national, and international level. Working with the National Center for Media Engagement (NCME), the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) is ensuring local public media stations can share effective practices with their peers and access resources to help them support Haitian relief initiatives in their own communities.
Working with the American Red Cross and the Ad Council, CPB has made available to stations through NCME, the public service announcements from First Lady Michelle Obama, and former Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush.
“In a time when Americans are looking for ways to help with this crisis, public media is serving as an important community resource for news and information,” said Patricia Harrison, president and CEO of CPB.
“I want to commend NPR, Newshour and other trusted public media news and information resources for their response to the crisis in Haiti,” said Ernest Wilson, chairman of the CPB Board of Directors. “Working with a nationwide network of stations, public media is ensuring that every American has access to the news and information they need.”
