Summary:

The person in this role works within the Audience Development department, reports to the Senior Manager, Content Marketing, and works in collaboration with a creative team of producers, designers, and marketing experts to develop strategies and tactics for engaging new Independent Lens audiences that stream the PBS documentary series on YouTube. Responsibilities include: Managing the delivery of the Independent Lens portfolio distributed on YouTube in partnership with PBS and public media stations; managing the operations and maintaining quality control of ITVS and Independent Lens YouTube channels; launching promotional, branded and original content on the ITVS and Independent Lens YouTube channels; and guiding brand cohesiveness as a key member of the Content Marketing team.

Brand Management

  • Partner with the Content Marketing team to develop audience and distribution plans both on YouTube and across social channels to increase viewing and subscriber numbers.
  • Maintain publishing schedules in partnership with internal content stakeholders, including Independent Lens production, distribution, creative services, and content marketing teams, and external partners like PBS.
  • Enforce branding guidelines on ITVS-owned YouTube channels.
  • Develop goals and derive insights from YouTube analytics, monitoring sentiment and comments on videos, creating reports as assigned. 
  • Drive YouTube Search Engine Optimization strategy, tags, and metadata, analyze audience and industry trends, and identify topics for video creation, such as optimization of titles, descriptions, and keywords for search and discoverability.

Channel Management

  • In partnership with PBS, manage the distribution of 15 to 20 long-form Independent Lens programs and 5 to 15 short-form programs annually on the PBS YouTube channel. 
  • Manage daily Independent Lens and ITVS YouTube channel operations, including reviewing and responding to comments, identifying cross-promotional opportunities, creating playlists, maintaining a content calendar, and retiring content with expired rights.  
  • Identify and execute publishing excerpts from Independent Lens and ITVS content on YouTube. 
  • Ensure all content uploads are on schedule and meet technical specifications, including but not limited to content titles, thumbnails, chaptering, and metadata.

Community Management

  • Serve as lead community manager, working with content producers to respond to audience questions, comments, and conversations on two-way platforms.
  • Support Content Marketing unit with social media preparation, community management, blog article creation, and newsletter campaigns as needed.
  • Collaborate with internal and external creators and agencies to ideate and manage Independent Lens-branded content.
  • Collaborate closely with the Marketing and Publicity team to ensure content deployed across Independent Lens digital platforms aligns with strategy to achieve targeted outcomes.
  • Write effective metadata and copy for content distributed on YouTube channels.

Requirements

  • Required: Two (2) years experience in a YouTube-oriented media production environment.
  • Required: Experience in video workflows and project management systems.
  • Required: A pulse on the Digital Channel landscape and experience creating YouTube-destined content 
  • Preferred: Proficient working in Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop
  • Preferred: Experience working within Google Suite, Asana, digital asset management software, and familiarity with camera and lighting equipment
  • Preferred: Experience working for a marketing, production, or editorial company.   

Compensation

ITVS is a financial steward of public funds and committed to pay transparency, as well as providing equitable and competitive compensation for staff. For this role the pay range is $74,168.87 - $82,894.62 and all incumbent new hires base pay will begin at $74,168.87. This is an exempt position that pays an annual salary and includes a robust benefits package. Advancement in the pay range is dependent on advancement in the role.

To achieve this goal in-office attendance, of at least eight (8) days a month, is a requirement of working at ITVS.
