Job Description:

 

BASIC FUNCTION: The Education Coordinator works on the design, development, oversight, and implementation of the Ready to Learn program in Washington DC under the general supervision and direction of the Education and Outreach Manager. Assist the station in fostering a community-wide culture that promotes RTL’s “Learn Together” theme and empowers children and adults to learn anytime, anywhere focused on the early learning needs of children and their families, especially related to functional literacy and career readiness (“RTL Learning Neighborhood”).

 

Provide targeted community engagement activities, promotion and distribution of Ready To Learn products and resources, and facilitate research/evaluation activities in (“RTL Learning Neighborhood”). within the WHUT viewing area that supports the goal of improving children's functional literacy and career readiness.

NATURE AND SCOPE: Provide targeted community engagement activities, promotion and distribution of Ready To Learn products and resources, and facilitate research/evaluation activities in (“RTL Learning Neighborhood”). within the WHUT viewing area that supports the goal of improving children's functional literacy and career readiness.

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:        

 

Work with the Station Leadership team to develop WHUT’s specific goals, tasks, and timelines to implement community engagement activities, promote and distribute PBS, Ready to Learn, American Graduate, and WHUT’s Educational programming, products, and resources, and facilitate research/evaluation activities in RTL Learning Neighborhood.

 

Administer WHUT-sponsored community engagement activities that provide educational resources this includes WHUT-sponsored special events and RTL experiences that expose young children to career and workforce options and help them to build vital functional literacy, critical thinking, collaboration, and "world of work" skills and knowledge.

 

 

Facilitate opportunities to conduct WHUT-Ready to Learn Research/evaluation targeted RTL Learning Neighborhood.

 

Identify and recruit community partners that serve families and children in the targeted RTL Learning Neighborhood who could distribute/promote RTL resources and materials in the community.

 

Promote WHUT-sponsored American Graduate programming within targeted communities using multi-platforms.

 

 

Facilitate planning meetings, and screenings with community partners and participate in meetings with station team and meetings sponsored by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB).

 

Research new educational opportunities.

 

Research potential funding opportunities to ensure the sustainability of programs.

 

Develop detailed progress reports of activities outlined in station action plans. Provide support to the station leadership team in the annual update to station action plans.

 

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Communication: This position involves a high degree of visibility in dealing with community members in developing and implementing Ready To Learn programs in targeted neighborhoods in Washington, DC. This position serves as the “face” of Ready To Learn in the community and requires excellent and professional oral and written communication skills. The person in this position must have the ability to relate to people on all levels. Teaching and grassroots community organizing/development skills are also necessary.

 

Interpersonal/Time Management: Ability to work under tight time constraints, get along with others, and handle difficulties or conflicts in appropriate ways. Strong orientation towards customer service. Problem-solving and the ability to grasp the whole picture is essential.

 

Project Management: This position requires strong organizational skills, with attention to detail and demonstrated ability to effectively manage resources and projects.  The person in this position is a team player with the ability to work independently, goal orientated with the ability to develop and implement tasks to meet implement projects on time and within budget. The person in this position must be familiar with neighborhoods in Washington, DC and has experience in developing and implementing special and/or community events.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

                                               

A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, and one year of equivalent experience.


General computer proficiency, in particular with Microsoft Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel as well as internet use/navigation and previous exposure to database use.

 

Must be able to maintain a flexible work schedule consistent of frequent, evening and weekend meetings and activities.

 

The candidate must be able to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team. Experience in an academic environment is highly desirable. Candidate should have access to an automobile for daily travel within Washington, DC
