Production Manager
KSMQ Public Service Media Inc.
The Production Manager is responsible for overseeing the optimal utilization of production resources and staff for all KSMQ local productions, ensuring the highest production values, and fostering the creation of relevant and engaging content in public affairs and general-interest local programs.
SPECIFIC OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages multiple physical and technical aspects of the KSMQ production facilities.
Supervises, schedules, and provides training for full-time and part-time production employees, including student interns.
Works with President/CEO and other community partners to identify issues that can be addressed through KSMQ local production.
Oversees the development and production of broadcast programs, independently or with staff or contract hosts/producers.
Troubleshoots issues that arise in production planning regarding equipment, services, or staff and crew issues.
Ensures that all staff and contract hosts/producers complete assignments within timeframes that will allow productions to proceed as scheduled.
Ensures that all supplies and equipment are properly maintained, accessible and ready to use when required, both in the studio and in remote locations.
Works to ensure that all projects are completed on schedule.
Develop strong internal and external relationships to establish and maintain a reliable and timely flow of information and materials to all parties.
Identifies and establishes required asset pipelines (e.g., acquisition of footage from other broadcasters, additional equipment, licensing, etc.) on the production side to ensure timely delivery of assets as required to promote and broadcast the finished product.
Ensures smooth process between Production and other departments and ensures delivery of necessary production deliverables to other staff on a timely basis.
Reports on production status and progress weekly with President/CEO. Facilitates weekly production meeting.
Makes recommendations for acquisition or upgrades of production equipment.
Supervises all aspects of studio production – directing, editing, sets, lighting, sound, cameras, storage, design, and related engineering processes.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum 5-10 years experience in Television Production and 3 years experience in a managerial position.
Superior television studio skills including directing, audio, lighting, and set design.
Extensive familiarity with standard principles, process, and technology in broadcast engineering.
Must be familiar with all technical processes in a Final Cut Pro environment where staff operates in both Mac and PC platforms.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while shifting priorities as needed.
Proficiency in Final Cut Pro, Word, and Excel required. Proficiency in FileMaker and CatDV (or similar systems) preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively in both spoken and written form.
Experience working as a Senior or Executive Producer or equivalent preferred.
Strong project management skill. Must have online/internet skills.
Strong time-management skills with a proven ability to focus on priorities, solve problems, juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems.
Enthusiastic, positive, team-oriented, and organized.
Ability to work under tight schedules and in a high-stress environment.
Commitment to the mission and goals of public broadcasting.
A valid Minnesota State driver’s license and good driving record is required for all KSMQ positions.
