POSITION OVERVIEW

The Outreach Coordinator is a key member of StoryCorps’ Mobile Department,
which oversees the operations of our MobileBooths and Mobile Tour. Our
MobileBooths are recording studios housed in Airstream trailers; they operate
year-round, making 4-6 week tour stops in towns and cities across the
country, partnering with local public radio stations and/or other host partners
during each tour stop. The Outreach Coordinator is based in StoryCorps’
Brooklyn headquarters and performs a number of tasks to support the Mobile
tour’s outreach to diverse communities.

Effective, systematized outreach is integral to the achievement of StoryCorps
and the Mobile Department’s participant diversity goals; the ideal candidate
will have solid skills and experience in researching, planning, and executing
community outreach and engagement. Strong logistical skills and multi-
tasking abilities are required.

The Outreach Coordinator reports to the Senior Coordinator, Mobile; it is a
part-time (20 hours per week) regular position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Oversee Mobile outreach strategies, conduct research, and recommend
effective outreach alternatives in the Mobile Department, emphasizing target
participant demographic groups (e.g., Black/African Americans,
Latinos/Hispanics and Asian Americans)

Collaborate with StoryCorps’ Marketing & Communications Department to
strategize effective methods and timelines for executing Mobile-related
marketing and communications activities to increase participation from
diverse audiences (e.g., sending press releases, distributing marketing
materials, etc.)

Assist the Senior Coordinator, Mobile with planning and executing logistics
for advance trips and community meetings for each Mobile stop

Manage partnerships with community organizations and oversee all
community engagement relationships within the Mobile Department
Attend interdepartmental meetings to ensure collaboration and coordination
of outreach strategies between departments

Assist with training Mobile Facilitators and Interns on outreach database
systems and outreach responsibilities

Support the Mobile Site Supervisor and Senior Coordinator with planning and
coordinating community celebration events during or ending a Mobile stop

Perform other duties to support the Mobile Department and StoryCorps’
outreach efforts, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

Ability to communicate clearly in Spanish and English, both orally and in writing

Minimum 2 years experience working within diverse communities, including
but not limited to conducting outreach on the ground

College degree, or high school diploma/equivalency plus at least 3 years of
work experience in outreach and community engagement

Excellent interpersonal, written/verbal communication, and public speaking
skills

Ability to be flexible and adaptable to a fast-paced, growing, changing
organization

Solid multi-tasking and logistical skills and attention to detail

Strong problem-solving and research skills

Strong conflict negotiation and collaborative skills

Ability to work independently as well as part of team

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and web-mail

Cultural competence and comfort working with diverse groups of people in an
inclusive organizational environment.

Preferred:

Proficiency on a Mac platform.
