RESPONSIBILITIES: Cameron seeks a creative and visionary leader to serve as Director of Broadcasting. The Director will lead a team of professionals dedicated to providing a quality public radio service. KCCU FM is a network of five full power and two translator stations providing public radio programming to Oklahoma and North Texas. KCCU was the first station in Oklahoma to broadcast an HD-1 and HD-2 signal. Suitable candidate must have desire to continue the development of new and innovative technologies being utilized by KCCU.
Knowledge of FCC rules relating to public radio is required. The experience to develop, monitor, and control budgets is required. Knowledge of CPB funding and ability to complete CPB forms and reports is required. Strong working knowledge of public radio fundraising, underwriting and grant writing is important. Ability to communicate with NPR, APM, CPB and other public broadcasting organizations is necessary. This position is responsible for moving the station forward working with a wide range of constituencies in a group of diverse communities.
The candidate should be computer literate with a working knowledge of computer networking, PC-based digital editing, AudioVAULT® automation software (or the equivalent) and traffic software. Basic PC troubleshooting and the ability to use the Microsoft Office Suite is highly desirable. The candidate should also be comfortable submitting financial data using Enterprise Resource Management software such as Ellucian’s Banner Advancement Module or other ERM program(s). Responsible for representing Cameron University and KCCU on the local, state, regional and national level.
This position will require frequent travel on behalf of KCCU and the University, setting up booths at various arts shows, home and garden shows and concerts. The Director of Broadcasting is responsible for maintaining a positive image not only of KCCU, but of Cameron University as a whole.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s Degree in Radio/Television, Mass Communications or a related field. Three to five years experience in radio management. Knowledge of new radio technologies and the Audio Vault automation system a plus. Knowledge of the new NPR content depot system to deliver programming to stations is required. Overall knowledge of public radio in general, the organization and funding of public radio stations. Knowledge of FCC rules required to keep the KCCU stations operating within the federal regulations. Must be able to work with KCCU engineer to design and expand the HD network of stations as technology evolves. Ability to write grants to local and national foundations and develop new sources of funding for programming is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master Degree in Radio/Television or Mass Communications. Five or more years of management experience of a public radio station or network of stations. Webpage design and knowledge preferred. Knowledge of the public radio program delivery systems and satellite delivery systems and satellite delivery systems a plus. Knowledge of public radio programming options and funding sources. Knowledge of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting budgets and Community Service Grant requirements provided to public radio stations. Ability to write grants to local and national foundations and develop new source of funding for programming is required.
SALARY RANGE: Commensurate with experience.
