Overview:

New York Public Radio (NYPR) seeks an outstanding professional to fundraise from institutional sources. The Associate Director, Institutional Giving is a key member of the four-person institutional giving effort, responsible for developing and executing high level fundraising strategies, writing high level grant proposals, reports, and correspondence for portfolio projects (and others as needed), and serving as lead fundraiser for a portfolio of NYPR programs and related donors. He/she will work closely with the Director, Institutional Giving; VP, Development; President and CEO; and other NYPR departments. 

 

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategies for cultivation and solicitation of current and prospective institutional donors to achieve revenue goals of $7+ million annually from all sources, including identifying new sources of funding/revenue.
  • Oversee and steward fundraising for a portfolio of NYPR programs, with related prospects and donors as applicable, in coordination with senior development colleagues and NYPR management and Trustees. 
  • Help to develop and launch a Corporate Sponsorship program for NYPR in conjunction with Director of Institutional Giving, and Development and Underwriting colleagues.
  • Manage a personal portfolio of key foundation and government donors, helping to initiate and steward key funding relationships, and serving as resident “expert” on those donors and first point of contact.
  • Develop and execute corporate giving strategy, including: identification of prospects through internal and external research; establish a transparent and collaborative relationship with NYPR underwriting department; manage all cultivation, proposals/pitches, and stewardship.
  • Write high level grant proposals, reports, and correspondence for portfolio projects (and others as needed) and manage proposal preparation and submission.
  • Schedule, attend, and support solicitation calls as needed locally and nationally.
  • Serve as project manager for portfolio proposals and grants, from overseeing proposal development and submission to project maintenance and reporting. 
  • Prepare and submit donor reports and correspondence/acknowledgements on time and in an organized and responsible fashion.
  • Help maintain internal grant proposal and report calendar, and revenue reports.
  • Support donor and prospect cultivation, including research for foundations, government, and corporate foundations.
  • Perform other special projects as requested by the Director, Institutional Giving and VP of Development.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree;
  • 7+ years experience in institutional fundraising, with a proven ability to strategically and effectively identify, solicit, and build relationships and partnerships with institutional donors;
  • Demonstrated experience developing and managing a corporate sponsorship program; existing relationships with corporate partners preferred;
  • Proven track record working with foundations and corporate supporters capable of 6 and 7 figure gifts and handling effective moves management;
  • Exceptional grant writing, comprehension, and editing skills, including experience writing proposals for 6/7-figure gifts. Timely correspondence, in a broad range of voices, and from different perspectives is required.
  • Pro-active and solution oriented, with strong ability to curtail problems before they emerge and effectively manage up.
  • Strong accountability for budgets.
  • The stature and confidence to effectively represent NYPR and build relationships with high-level clients, decision-makers, and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent follow-through, prioritization, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to add value at a very high level, while effectively managing implementation at the tactical level. 
  • Strong intellect and curiosity quotient.  Innovative thinker and problem-solver.
  • Interest in building and transforming, and navigating the exploration, discovery and uncertainty inherent in doing something new, developing and innovating.

  • Use of a computer, telephone and other office and/or broadcast equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through a variety of methods  including but not limited to; email, internet based applications for internal and external communications
  • Affinity for New York Public Radio; WNYC and/or WQXR content and mission a plus
